Carl Calvin Engert of Alamo, Texas passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Weslaco, Texas on November 5, 1951 to Carl Sebastian Engert and Evangeline Janice Kaml. Carl attended high school in Edinburg, Texas. The Engert and Kaml families pioneered cattle ranching and orchard development in the Rio Grande Valley and Carl became an expert nurseryman. Carl networked extensively with Texas A&M and A&I in continual development of a prosperous orchard business.

Carl is survived by his wife Gracie Engert and one daughter Eva Marie Engert Torres of Alamo, Texas and a son Carl Jason Engert of McAllen, Texas; also, a sister Mary Louise Williams of Franktown, CO; a nephew Greg Fantle of Littleton, CO and a niece, Melissa Ann Davis of Ramstein, Germany.

With a larger than life personality, Carl accumulated a multitude of friends throughout Texas and surrounding states through his integrity in business and generosity to others. He loved good stories, fishing and hunting and his keen sense of humor will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at Vaughan Funeral Home in Donna, Texas on Saturday, July 1st at 2:00pm. Donations to Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge are appreciated in lieu of flowers. Vaughan Funeral Home of Donna is in charge of arrangements.
